Cascina Ristorante

So, after extensive walking to make it down to Little Italy, we were two worn and weary travelers, and we were both super excited to try out some Italian food. There is a very unique neighborhood vibe, with lots of open air restaurants, with smells of food and sounds of music and socializing pouring out into the streets. It is very festive, and has a small town feel to it.
We strolled up and down the sidewalks, taking it all in and trying to decide on the best place to eat supper. We ended up choosing Cascina Ristorante. It was very authentic and rustic looking inside, with a piano playing in the corner and the manager (I think) singing along in Italian while walking about the room.

Peroni beer and fresh bread.
We ordered the spaghetti al la carbonara (one of my favorites- pancetta, onion, egg, cracked pepper, and pecorino romano) and cannelloni con ragu di carne ( pasta stuffed with ricotta and baked with meat ragu). Wow. Both were amazing. Not sure if it was due to our worn out bodies and hunger, but this meal was exceptioanlly good. We have heard great things about Little Italy, and they are all true. We will definately be back the next time we are in NYC.

  1. without having endless leftover ingredients, could you mimick the spagetti al la carbonara at home in your own kitchen? ~ on a night when you are not out serving the public with your detailed helpful reviews that is!

  3. We could definately try, but to make it like they did would be a real challenge. Perhaps a futile attempt will be made at some unforseen date.
